What is a Canada Work Permit?
In simple terms, a Canada Work Permit is a temporary service that allows a person to migrate to Canada to start work in a specific position in a Canadian company. When the person applying for the work permit secures a job offer in Canada, they instantly bypass all “points system” testing processes that would usually determine eligibility. There is then no need to have met certain requirements.
However, when you are a skilled worker or a business – whether that’s a large corporation or a small limited company – you will need to fulfil a number of requirements and earn points against your application before a work permit is granted.
Process
If you are looking to get yourself a Canada Work Permit you must complete three stages. Once you’ve done this then the application will be considered, but not before.
The first step is to secure a valid job offer from a Canadian employer and then provide proof of the offer in a written document. Then your employer must complete a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). This is the application to allow a foreign worker to fill the position because a Canadian citizen couldn’t. This lack of citizen-based skills must be proven, and the position must show it pays the same wages to the potential employee as it would natives.
The final stage is to ensure that an application is made through the official ‘Citizen and Immigration Canada’; the CIC.
Dependents
When you possess a Canada Work Permit, your wife, husband, common-law partner, and dependent children are entitled to join you in Canada. However, if any of your family have the desire to work when joining you in the country, they themselves must apply for their own sole working visa, as your visa does not cover any family members working, only yourself.
EA Visas handles thousands of enquiries each year with regards Canadian visas. It’s a popular country to work and live in, so why not use our FREE online assessment tool to see whether you meet the criteria to go and work in Canada.
