The Skilled Regional Visa is a temporary visa for those people who do not meet the criteria for a Skilled Independent Visa. This application method allows you to live in a Specified Regional Area of Australia for two years, of which you’re expected to work before later being eligible to gain permanent residency.
At EA Visas we know the immigration process is hard, and it’s harder still when you have to take an alternate route to allow you to get into a country. Often, the alternatives are easier with the rules taken into account, but vastly more complicated with their criteria. Our top immigration staff can cut through all the conflicted messages and give you simple and effective advice; advice that gets you to Australia. Please try our FREE online assessment form.
Eligible
To be eligible for this visa you must be nominated by a participating state or territory government agency. Alternatively, you can be sponsored by a relative who lives in a designated region of Australia.
Regardless of this you must possess the skills and credentials which meet the Australian standard for a profession on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and be outside Australia, or be a New Zealand citizen and hold a Special Category Visa.
Like almost all Australian immigration visas there will be a points-based test involved. This assesses your English language ability as well as awarding points based on your skill level, your age, and the need for your skills in the economy. This is a difficult selection process, though, and it is commonplace for people to be repeatedly declined.
What Does This Visa Allow You To Do?
If you are granted a Skilled Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa you will be permitted to reside in Australia for up to three years. You will be required to work in a Specified Regional area of Australia, however.
You are also allowed accompanying secondary applicants, who will be permitted to work and study in a Specified Regional area of Australia alongside you. After the process and the stay you will be able to apply for a permanent residence visa.
